A trip in February 2016 took us to the northern tip of Indonesia. Ache is mostly known for earthquakes, tsunamis, civil war and sharia law. The province is slowly recovering and has incredible things to discover.

SRSF_West Java

Java war nicht unsere erste Wahl für diesen Urlaub... Eigentlich hatten wir ganz andere Pläne, die uns auf die andere Seite der Halbkugel führen sollten. Erst als wir im Reisebüro zur Erst-Info saßen und alle möglichen Optionen durchspielten, tauchte plötzlich die Alternative Java, auf. Nicht zuletzt auf Grund der kompetenten Beratung von Sonja, STA-Travel Linz. Warum denn auch nicht, dachten wir uns! Nach einigen Surftrips nach Bali war es nun auch wirklich an der Zeit, eine andere Seite von Indonesien kennen zu lernen. 

Java was not our first choice for our holidays...In fact we had a whole list of plans, which would take us on the other side of the world. Once in the travel office for our initial info, we went through a whole lot of options and came to the conclusion of Java. Not to forget the competence of Sonja from the STA-Travel Linz. Why not? After numerous surftrips to Bali it was time to get to know new corners of Indonesia.

SRSF September Session_Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura ist des Stadtrandsurfers liebste Surfdestination. In den letzten sieben Jahren waren es nicht weniger als neun Trips auf das kanarische Eiland. Warum eigentlich?

Fuerteventura is the stadtrandsurfer’s favorite surfdestination. In the last seven years we count not less than nine visits to the island. But why?

SRSF_Southern England

Im Juni kann man in England kaum gute Wellen erwarten- zwar treiben Westwinde manchmal die schweren Atlantik-Dünungen auf die Westküste der Insel, aber es ist bei brauchbarem Swell fast immer mit starkem Wind zu rechnen. 
Usually one cannot await a decent surf in England in June – westerly winds will bring the heavy Atlantic swell to the west coast, but this swell is usually then also accompanied by heavy winds.

SRSF Dolce Vita_Liguria

Dass es in Bella Italia gute Wellen gibt, ist wohl kein Geheimnis mehr. Die Frage ist nur wann und wo?

Mittlerweile sind zwei Jahre seit dem letzten Trip ins Land des Dolce Vita vergangen. Nicht, dass es in Vergessenheit geraten wäre, nur wie eingangs schon erwähnt, ist die Konstanz der Wellen nicht sehr groß. Der Stormrider Surf Guide schätzt die Surftage auf gerade mal 120 im Jahr und meistens gibt es dann nur zwei bis drei Tage am Stück surfbaren Swell.

The fact that one can find decent waves in Bella Italia is not a secret anymore. The question is just, where and when?

It's been two long years since our last trip to the country of Pasta and Pizza. Not that we forgot about it, but as already mentioned, the consistency of waves is not very high in this region. Stormrider Surf Guide states around 120 surfdays a year. When the mediterranean hits, you’ll have to run. Short swell windows will give you only two or three days of surfable waves until it's flat again.

Neues Jahr, neue Surfsaison, neue Destination: Sri Lanka. Die tränenförmige Insel im indischen Ozean ist nicht nur für ihr reiches Kulturerbe und die vielfältige Natur bekannt. Schon seit den frühen 60er Jahren zieht sie Surfer aus der ganzen Welt an.

A new year, a new surf season and a new destination: Sri Lanka. A tear drop shaped island in the indian ocean which is not only well known for its cultural heritage and its natural diversity - since the early 60’s it attracts surfers from all over the world.

Weihnachtszeit, Kekse, Glühwein, Schnee und für uns heißt es, zum Glück, Boardbag packen und die letzten Tage des Jahres mit Freunden auf den Kanaren genießen. Mit im Gepäck, kleine Geschenke für unsere Italo-Locals und Surf-Tips von Lazi Ruedegger, einem Austro-Canario, mit dem wir vor unserer Abreise noch den einen oder anderen Tiefschneehang erobert hatten (mehr über Lazi unter: http://www.lazislife.com/).

Christmas time, cookies, hot wine, snow….and we are lucky to pack our boardbags and escape to the canarian islands with some friends. In our bags, little presents for our italian friends and a bunch of good surf tips from Lazi Ruedegger, an austro-canario, whom we went snowboarding with some days earlier (more info on Lazi: http://www.lazislife.com/).

Es ist schon kompliziert, mit Teilen der SRSF-Crew einen Surf-Trip zu organisieren – und erst recht mit der ganzen Bande!

Darum ist es immer etwas Besonderes, wenn es sich dann doch mal vereinbaren lässt! Zuletzt gelang uns das vor genau zwei Jahren. Damals verschlug es uns nach Lagos/Portugal. Nachdem im Rahmen der SRSF Invasion_Normandy zu Ostern dieses Jahres die Spots der Region als gut befunden wurden, machte sich nun die gesamte Crew auf, die Strände Nordfrankreichs zu erobern.

It's not always easy to plan a trip with parts of the SRSF crew, especially not if it's nearly the whole "gang".
Therefore it is always something special, if we can arrange it. Last time we organized a similar trip 2 years ago, when we took a flight to Lagos, Portugal. After the SRSF Invasion_Normandy (easter 2013) we decided to head to the north of France again.

SRSF_Short Trip Ireland

Seit geraumer Zeit wecken die Medien immer wieder unsere Neugier mit Berichten über das Big Wave Surfen rund um Mullaghmore Head im Nordwesten Irlands und dem relativ konstanten Swell fast das ganze Jahr hindurch. Um uns selbst davon zu überzeugen, setzten wir schließlich einen Irland-Trip auf unsere To-do-Liste. Das verlängerte Wochenende Mitte August bot uns die ideale Gelegenheit dazu.

We have all heard enough through the media in the past on big wave surfing around Mullaghmore Head in the north-west of Ireland and the relatively constant swell which hits its coasts throughout the year. To check that out ourselves we decided to plan an Ireland trip. Just to make sure not to miss out something.
